Hey Again

Hey everyone! It's been a long time since I last updated this blog, but I've been keeping busy with a lot of things. Since my "end of 2009" blog post, I've started two Youtube channels, ZeldaUniverseTV and CodyDaviesTV, and raised them to 15000 and 4000 subscribers respectively.

Things have been going pretty well overall. :D Hopefully I'll get back to updating this frequently at some point, but it's just a lot more fun making a vlog and having a thousand people watch it than it is to write a blog and have 3 people read it. Hello to those three people, though!

First up, I will reveal that dramatic finale that I talked about last post. Thanks to commenter Martin for reminding me, whoever you are! Basically, I got a non-automated response from Nintendo, and that response was no.

In other news, I've been writing some articles on a semi-consistent basis lately for Zelda Universe. One is titled 5 Ways to Apply the Legend of Zelda to Daily Life and the other is called Voice Acting in Zelda: The Case for a Vocal Link.

They are both pretty awesome, which I am sure about because I'm the one who wrote them.

Exams and Nintendo

I had an exam on Saturday! I'm pretty sure I passed. I don't get a break though - class starts again on Wednesday. :<

I tried applying for a job at Nintendo today, but so far I have been met with only an automated e-mail response. I e-mailed them again asking for a non-automated response. Stay tuned for the dramatic finale!

Undiscovered Talent

A couple of weeks ago I went over to a hawker center near my new house to have dinner. I ordered fish & chips, and asked for tomato sauce rather than the chili sauce that Singaporeans automatically add to every meal (grr), and then I ate it and I left. Not very memorable or exciting, right?

Well, I went back there again today, and when I went to order, someone there immediately recognized me and repeated to me my last order from weeks ago, including which sauce I wanted and what my drink was. It was good, because I didn't have to even make the order myself, but it was also a bit creepy. Was it just that the man had an exceptionally good memory, or was it that my superhuman charisma in ordering my meal last time left a lasting impact on his life? Probably a bit of both.

I can understand being recognized - out of the thousands of visitors to a hawker center each day, <1% of them are white with brown hair and a funny accent, though that still doesn't explain how he remembered my exact order from several weeks before. I know that a good memory is a positive trait in a worker at a hawker center (a sort of outdoors food court, for those tuning in from outside Singapore), since if you can remember a customer and make them feel welcome at your stall, that's one up on all of the other competing stalls, but it got me thinking - how much talent is being wasted on such low-paying jobs as "waiter" that could be used at the tertiary education level?

A memory as good as that one would be a godsend in many jobs. Assuming that it carried over to mathematical formulas, that man could be a calculus wizard, or a high-level chess player, a game which hinges on your memory of your past experiences playing. Maybe some of our most talented people are currently just janitors or selling tissues on the street, because they never utilized their true talent. Just thought that was interesting. :3

Moving House and Getting $20

Hello again, imaginary friends and people who are here for revenge after being cut by my witty comments on their blogs. I should probably add that second one as a new option to the poll sometime.

We moved house this week. It's been very interesting, and some things that were lost in my room have been unearthed by the movers, so that was fun too.

Also, today is the day that I did actual work for money for the first time. A lot of other students start working part-time a lot earlier at places like McDonalds, but because I am cool my first job is as an English tutor and I got $20 today. Hurray!

April Fools Day

Good News and Bad News

A lot has happened today, some good and some bad. So, I'll start with the good!

Today, I auditioned for my university's ripoff of American Idol (called PSB Idol). I think I did pretty well, but we'll know the results on Friday. They promised "fabulous prizes" of some sort of if I win, so I hope I can make it to the top, but there's still a chance they might try to pull a "your prize was the experience you gained" trick, so I still need to be careful!

In sadder news, we just found out that one of the staff at my website, ZU, passed away from cancer three days ago. :< He will be missed.

My computer keeps shutting itself down for no particular reason, then refusing to turn back on for several hours. Apparently there's corrosion in the motherboard or something, so we're getting a new one.

That means my computer will be off a lot, so I'll probably end up doing gym stuff for a few weeks while I wait for the motherboard to arrive from Australia. And maybe some school stuff too. :3

Whee for pointlessosity

The thought has recently occurred to me that since no-one reads my blog, this also means that no-one cares whether my blog posts are big and important or just small and insignificant, so expect to see a lot of smaller blog posts that are posted more often.

Yesterday's gym session was really draining. I could feel the strain every time I lifted my arms today, and I was so tired that I slept in two hours late even with my alarm going. I got to my Economics class in time to sign the attendance sheet, at least, but I think the teacher thinks I did it on purpose. :< On the plus side, it helps to solidify my class persona of being "lazy", which is nice because the less pressure I'm being given to do work the better - honestly, I'm still burned out from the ZU work overload in December, but hopefully I should recover in time for any major tests.

I was also pretty tired through the English class, but luckily I didn't actually have to do much, since the first hour consisted of the teacher ranting at the class for not doing this piece of homework assigned over the Chinese New Year break, and during the other 2 hours we worked on a group assignment, so I just got someone else to do the writing while I instead made sarcastic comments with my razor sharp wit (occasionally contributing too), driving other members of the group to nail-biting insanity. That part was definitely fun!

Oh, and I also joined the photography club. It will be interesting to see how that turns out. Also, this post was meant to be short, but I guess my daily life is more exciting than I thought.

I haven't posted any blog entries lately because there's really been nothing to report. Let's see... My new semester of University started up again, and I discovered that my calculations on the gym thing from earlier were off because I forgot to factor in the amount of body water. That's all for now. :3

A Unique Christmas Present - the Gift of Fitness?

Yep, I'm writing about what I got for Christmas two weeks too late. So late, in fact, that it's pretty much my birthday already. :3 I'm going to start copying these blog posts over to other sites with blogs that people actually visit, like MySpace, because it's sort of depressing talking to myself on the internet at a blog that nobody actually visits. A blog that nobody actually visits is more of a diary, and I don't particularly like diaries.

I'm sure that all of you imaginary blog readers and people who spend too much time on MySpace are eager for me to get to the point, which is the thing I got for Christmas. As you may have guessed from the intriguing title of this post, it has something to do with fitness. A lot to do with fitness, really - the present was a membership to a gym that's on the way to Uni, along with several lessons from a personal trainer there to teach me to use all the machines properly and other such things. The gym also has a bunch of free classes for various things that you can sign up for. They have classes for everything from Combat to Dancing to Yoga, I'll probably check those out soon.

This was a great present because I've been wanting to get properly in shape for a long time now, but was just generally lazy and with nowhere to really go. According to a machine they have there, in the two weeks since Christmas I've lost about 1.5kg of fat while gaining 0.5kg of muscle. (The personal trainer also monitors my diet and makes me keep a food log, it's not just the working out). It's a gift that not only keeps me entertained, but increases my lifespan! I'll probably report back on what happens with my birthday tomorrow, so be sure to stay tuned! Pew Pew Fighter Planes

After my latest exam results came in, my parents threatened to send me off to the military to get myself some self-discipline (think I forgot to mention that and a couple other things last time) and it got me thinking - it might be really interesting to actually join the military, not as an enlisted, but as a officer. I've always been good with tactics and with yelling at other people to do their jobs (mostly our site staff on Zelda Universe).

So if I do that, it comes down to the big question - Army, Navy or Air Force? After asking around a bit, a lot of people seem to think that the Navy are a bit too outdated for this day and age and also seem to subconsciously link the Navy with the Village People. Perhaps your day will come again when we're out in space fighting with giant spaceships, Navy. :<

The Army seems to be fairly respected, but most people seem to think that the Air Force is the coolest. It does have a bunch of cool-sounding ranks, after all, like Wing Commander, which makes me think of the Death Star assault from Star Wars, and Air Commodore, which makes me sound like I command a whole fleet of giant floating ships. Haret in particular (hi Haret) seems to think that the Air Force is all about zooming around in fighter planes, but fighter pilots have to be perfect with like perfect eyesight and everything, so I don't think I'll get to be one of those.
